Since finding good books for our children to read can be very difficult, it is wonderful to have this book as a great resource for rich, wholesome books. There are lists of classics as well as more recent books by Christian authors. There are so many books I have not heard of, but the description tells me if it is a book I want to get. There are also title, author, and subject indexes to help you find a particular book. It is reassuring to know that two godly women, a mother and daughter team, have read these books and can highly recommend them to us. The format is enjoyable, and the summaries are great. There are some very cute illustrations throughout the book. I know this book will be used for many years to come.

The Book Tree is a new, handy guide to use in gathering select children's books from the library or the book store. It points to all the major classics and favorites, as well as many lesser known stories. Its summaries are divided into preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school levels. Three indexes make for easy navigation.

McCallum and Scott have put together an extensive 175 page list of great literature for preschool on through high school students. They preface their reviews with a great explanation of how to develop your child's interest in good literature instead of some of the modern twaddle that is so often mistaken for literature.
